Job Description
- We seek a highly experienced and motivated Director of Research and Policy to lead our efforts in developing evidence-based research and policy initiatives that support climate action and sustainable development in Africa.
- The successful candidate will play a key role in shaping organisational strategy, producing impactful publications, and advocating for policy change at national and regional levels.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop logical frameworks for producing research and policy outputs aligned with Climate Action Africa’s thematic areas.
- Produce high-quality publications, including reports, policy briefings, and factsheets, presenting clear findings and actionable recommendations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Stay abreast of developments in public policy, legislation, best practices, and relevant initiatives within Climate Action Africa’s thematic areas, and integrate this knowledge into organisational strategies and activities.
- Analyse and evaluate the existing policy environment, identify opportunities for advocacy and recommend organisational positions through comment letters, memos, and policy briefings.
- Conduct data analysis to assess the impact of proposed policy changes and inform strategic decision-making.
- Contribute to producing Climate Action Africa’s communication materials, such as newsletters, articles, and other outreach initiatives.
- Represent Climate Action Africa at key sustainable development events and participate in policy-related forums to advance organisational goals.
- Work closely with internal teams to maintain an active virtual advocacy community and ensure effective coordination of research and policy initiatives.
- Ensure Climate Action Africa’s website remains current with relevant policy and research tools to support advocacy efforts.
- Conduct primary and secondary research to inform Climate Action Africa’s expertise in advocacy and sustainable development.
- Undertake strategic analysis of research needs and make recommendations to enhance organisational effectiveness and impact.
Required Profile
- Deep knowledge of Africa’s policy settings and social issues, focusing on climate action and sustainable development.
- Proven track record of delivering significant policy projects that align with organisational strategy and support effective advocacy.
- Significant experience developing policy positions within government or on behalf of organisations seeking to influence government policy.
- Strong accountability and flexibility, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously, with effective relationship management and influencing skills.
- Competent researcher with a good understanding of practical research methods and the ability to utilise various research techniques at a high standard.
- Precise and accurate written and oral communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and partners.
- Strong organisational and prioritisation skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within diverse teams.
