Job Title: Payroll Officer

Job Summary

  • The Payroll Officer is responsible for managing the company’s payroll process to ensure accurate and timely payment of salaries and wages to employees. This role involves calculating earnings, deductions, and taxes, maintaining payroll records, and ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Payroll Processing: Process and manage the company’s payroll cycle, including calculating employee earnings, deductions, benefits, and taxes.
  • Data Management: Maintain and update payroll records and employee information in the payroll system.
  • Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
  • Reporting: Prepare and distribute payroll reports, including payroll summaries, tax reports, and overtime reports.
  • Problem Resolution: Address and resolve payroll-related inquiries and issues from employees promptly and accurately.
  • Tax Filings: Prepare and file payroll tax returns and ensure timely payment of payroll taxes.
  • Audits: Assist in internal and external audits related to payroll by providing required documentation and information.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and recommend improvements to payroll processes and systems to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. Relevant certifications (e.g., Certified Payroll Professional – CPP) are a plus.
  • Experience: Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in payroll administration or a similar role.
  • Skills: Strong numerical and analytical skills, proficiency in payroll software (e.g., ADP, Paychex), and Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel.
  • Knowledge: Thorough understanding of payroll laws and regulations, tax withholding, garnishments, and benefits administration.

  • Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all payroll activities.
  • Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and meet tight deadlines.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employee information and payroll records.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate payroll information clearly to employees.
  • Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve payroll discrepancies and issues.

Salary
N150,000 – N170,000 per month.
